  • Austin (Texas) Smart Growth Initiative This project aims to manage growth, protect Austin's quality of life and ensure the creation of a healthy economy.

  • Congress for New Urbanism This organization works for the restoration of existing urban centers and towns within coherent metropolitan regions, the reconfiguration of sprawling suburbs into communities of real neighborhoods and diverse districts, the conservation of natural environments and the preservation of the built legacy.

  • Growth Management Institute This nonprofit organization encourages effective and equitable management of growth and change to achieve sustainable urban development and redevelopment in harmony with environmental conservation.

  • Minnesota Smart Growth Network 1,000 Friends of Minnesota coordinates the network to help Minnesota stop urban sprawl and start "growing smart." 

  • National Governors Association's Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources Division has published a document called "New Community Design to the Rescue-Fulfilling Another American Dream" that looks at creative ways to implement traditional neighborhood design into the community.

  • Oregon's Transportation and Growth Management Program This program works to integrate transportation planning with the statewide land use planning program to achieve benchmarks for mobility, air quality and community design.

  • Smart Growth: Colorado's Future Colorado's smart growth initiatives are designed to bring economic prosperity to the entire state.

  • Smart Growth in Maryland State initiatives work to better manage land use and growth in Maryland.

  • $mart Growth Network This network encourages environmentally and fiscally responsible land use, growth and development by building partnerships, developing information tools and programs, and establishing dialogue among development stakeholders. 

  • Smart Growth Toolkit This is a program of research and advocacy
    to stem the spread of automobile-dependent sprawl and promote more efficient patterns of metropolitan growth in the United States. 

  • SprawlWatch Clearinghouse This resource center provides information, advice and referrals on issues related to sprawl, smart growth and livable communities.
